Normal practice is for buyers to work with their own agent regarding viewing homes for sale. Having said that, it is also quite common for buyers to visit Open Houses with or without their buyers agent. Nobody should have any problem with that.

When it does become poor practice is to ask a listing agent to show you a home when it is not an Open House and when you know you won't be letting the listing agent represent you.

Having said all that, the answer to your question is yes you can hire a buyers agent, providing you have not signed a buyer agreement with the listing agent.
