A DuPage County judge this afternoon found two women not guilty of charges they committed forgery to help the son of one of the women fight accusations that he sexually abused young female gymnasts he coached in Aurora.
Judge Robert Kleeman said the state did not prove the guilt of ?Linda Lynch, the mother of Michael Cardamone, and Andrea Arndt, a former employee at the gym where Cardamone coached.
Lynch and Arndt were accused by prosecutors of creating false schedules that claimed to show Cardamone wasn't at the gym when some of the alleged sexual abuse occurred.
Cardamone was arrested in 2002 and charged with having inappropriate contact with 14 girls at the family-operated gym.
He was found guilty in 2005 of sexually abusing seven girls, acquitted of abusing seven others and sentenced to 20 years in prison. But his conviction was overturned when an appeals court ruled that the trial judge had made errors, and a new trial was ordered.
But in November, as part of a plea deal, Cardamone pleaded guilty to aggravated battery, unlawful restraint and perjury, ending his 10-year court saga.
He was sentenced to 10 years as part of the plea deal, but avoided going back to prison because of credit for time already served.
He was ordered to serve two years of probation and register for 10 years on a list of those who have committed violence against young people. He did not have to register on the state sex offender list.
